England maintained their 100 per cent record at the UEFA Women’s European Championships with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Spain today in Breda.

The English, who thrashed Scotland 6-0 in their opening match, survived a torrential downpour at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, as well as improving opposition.

Fran Kirby gave her side the lead after just two minutes before Jodie Taylor doubled their lead after 85 minutes.

England now require just a point in their final game to guarantee their progression.

A late finish from Ana Leite ensured a 2-1 victory for Portugal over Scotland in the day's other game in Group D at the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel in Rotterdam.

The teams had been separated by a neat finish by Carolina Mendes in the only meaningful chance for either side in the first half.

Scotland, improving slightly after their opening game thrashing, fought back through substitute Erin Cuthbert after 68 minutes.

The winner came just four minutes later leaving Scotland firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

The final round of group stage matches is due to begin tomorrow.
