Belgium claimed a first-ever win at a Women's European Championships finals today with a superb 2-0 victory over Norway in Breda.

After a first half deadlock, goals soon after from Elke van Gorp and Janice Cayman proved the difference to the delight of travelling support in the Rat Verlegh Stadion.

Van Gorp's effort marked Belgium first ever goal in a major women's tournament.

It kept alive Belgian hopes of progressing to the knockout stages from Group A after they lost their opening match against Denmark 1-0.

Tessa Wullaert was named player of the match after a superb all-round performance.

Norway,beaten by hosts The Netherlands by the same margin in their opener, are now on the verge of elimination.

The Dutch continued their impressive form by beating Denmark 1-0 in the day's other match in the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel in Rotterdam.

Sherida Spitse converted from the penalty spot after Danielle van de Donk was tripped.

Denmark's Pernille Harder had a golden chance to equalise but was denied by a superb save by goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal.
