City Airport in London has been announced as the latest supplier to the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships, which are due to begin here tomorrow.
The airport has been providing extensive marketing support in the lead up to the Championships.
City Airport, located in East London in the historic Royal Docklands, has been transforming in the past 30 years from an airport that welcomed just 133,000 passengers in 1988 - its first full year of operation - to a record-breaking year in 2016 with 4.5 million passengers.
The airport aims to remain an East London business at heart, with more than 64 per cent of employees coming from the local area.
"London City Airport has been the first calling point for many athletes, officials and spectators so it has been important to put on a special welcome," Niels de Vos, Championship Director of London 2017, said.
"It is especially good to have the airport based closest to the stadium working with us."
Last month, logistics specialists EFM Global have signed on as a national supplier of the World Para Athletics Championships.
The British-based company will be tasked with supplying logistics services for the duration of the event, which is set to conclude on July 23.
It will include customs clearance, baggage and equipment handling, transportation, freight forwarding and integrated logistics support to London 2017.
The World Para Athletics Championships precede the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships, which are scheduled to take place here from August 4 to 13.
London 2017 marks the first time ever that both the World Para Athletics Championships and IAAF World Championships are being held in the same city in the same summer.
