United States luge Olympians will wear "All-American Racer" helmets at Pyeongchang 2018 following a design contest.

The design by Jon Wooten garnered 57 per cent of a vote held among fans and will now be donned in the South Korean county in February.

Wooten also designed the other helmet contender, known as "Stars, Stripes and Liberty".

His winning design will be officially unveiled and presented to the American Olympic luge team on December 16 in Lake Placid.

On the same day, the 10 athletes the US will send to Pyeongchang will be nominated during a press conference in the New York village, a two-time host of the Winter Games.

In May, USA Luge selected a pool of athletes for their summer training camp, with all of the group bidding to secure places at Pyeongchang 2018.

Three men and three women will represent the US in singles competition, along with two doubles teams.

Sochi 2014 bronze medallist Erin Hamlin leads the way in the women's category.

Chris Mazdzer is included among the men and will be hoping to secure his third Olympic berth after competing at Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014.
