The International Ski Federation (FIS) has begun to receive interest after registration for the 2018 World Snow Day opened.

A total of 15 countries registered for next year's edition, which is scheduled to be held on January 21, within the first three days.

World Snow Day Tarvisio took the honour of the first event to be officially confirmed with the Italian comune’s registration arriving just minutes past midnight on the opening day on July 1.

Other notable mentions go to Bulgaria’s Vitosha Winter Festival, Canada’s Mount Baldy World Snow Day, France’s La Rosiere World Snow Day, Serbia’s Svi na Sneg, Greece’s Parnassos World Snow Day and Romania’s Ziua Mondiala a Zapezii.

Polish town Zakopane, the winners of the Best World Snow Day 2017 prize, has also come on board.

“Fifteen countries in the first three days is a record for World Snow Day, which is a testimony to the successful progress of the World Snow Day," FIS President Gian-Franco Kasper said.

"We are looking forward to seeing which events will be next."

Registration is free of charge and can be completed online by clicking here.

In all, 478 events were held in 46 countries for this year’s World Snow Day on January 15.

The day aims to look beyond the FIS membership to the wider snow sports community.

It seeks to motivate children aged from four to 14 by encouraging stakeholders to celebrate all things snow around the world simultaneously.
