Latvia won the men's title at the 2017 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Europe Cup following two shock victories today.

After defeating the reigning world champions Serbia in the semi-finals, the Latvians then beat the defending European champions Slovenia en-route to the title at Museum Square in Dutch capital Amsterdam.

The final was poised with just 45 seconds remaining but three successful free throws tipped the balance in favour of Latvia, who claimed a 16-13 victory.

It appeared to be a difficult challenge to even reach the final for Latvia but they eliminated three-time world champions Serbia 19-17 in the final four.

Slovenia, meanwhile, cruised past Ukraine 22-8 to advance to the gold medal match.

Still fazed by their last four defeat, Serbia were then beaten to the bronze medal by Ukraine who claimed a 20-18 victory.

Russia claimed their second women's European crown today.

After winning the title in 2014 in Romania, the Russians defeated Spain 22-14 in the final this evening.

In the semi-finals, the Spaniards silenced the home crowd by defeating The Netherlands 11-9 to reach the gold medal contest.

They were soon joined by Russia who edged France 16-12.

After losing in the semi-final, the Dutch team regrouped and defeated France 19-15 to secure a memorable bronze on home soil.

This was the first major European 3x3 tournament since the sport became an Olympic event.

It was confirmed in June by the International Olympic Committee that 3x3 will make its Games debut at Tokyo 2020.
