Mitja Oranic has been unveiled as the new head coach of the Slovenian national Nordic Combined team.

The 31-year-old competed at the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

He finished 41st in the 10 kilometres individual large hill and 31st in the 10km individual normal hill events in Canada.

Four years later he improved to 39th in the large hill, but dropped to 37th in the normal.

Oranic will lead an eight-strong squad that is headed by Marjan Jelenko, a former junior world champion.

Tomaz Druml also forms part of the contingent following his decision to switch allegiances from Austria to Slovenia.

The 29-year-old had been a member of the Austrian B-team, but admitted that he had struggled to gain a place in the senior set-up there.

The FIS approved the switch at their Calendar Conference in Portorož, Slovenia.

Druml will be able to compete for his new country during the 2017-18 season.

Leon Sarc, Vid Vrhovnik, Matevz Malorvh, Rok Jelen, Ozbej Jelen and Nik Knaus are also members of the team.

“This year, we’ve made many changes," Oranic said.

"Jelenko remains the team’s number one but there are also three juniors, who train with our experienced athletes and three youngsters from the younger age groups.

“We currently do not have a quota for the Olympic Games.

"We have one international start place which is not nominal.

"Of course, the goal is to bring our team to the Olympics.

"Here, I am thinking that two, or even three of our boys have to present themselves in the best light.

"Among our short-term goals is a good performance at our home Summer Grand Prix in Planica at the end of September."
