The Mongolia National Olympic Committee (MNOC) celebrated Olympic Day with a host of activities for local young people.

Held at the Burte Chono Plaza in front of the MNOC's headquarters in the capital of Ulaanbaatar, events were planned throughout the day with the cooperation of the National Sports Federations of karate, football, volleyball, badminton, baseball and softball, table tennis and athletics.

Olympic Day is dedicated to the founding of the international Olympic Movement by Pierre de Coubertin on June 23, 1894.

It aims to spread the ideals of the Olympic Movement and promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.

Guests in attendance at the celebrations included MNOC President Demchigjav Zagdsuren, Olympic medallists, Government representatives, foreign ambassadors and foreign embassy cultural representatives.

More than 120 young athletes participated in events such as a friendly football match, as well as mini volleyball and badminton competitions.

Alongside those activities, MNOC also organised a karate performance following the sport's inclusion onto the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020.

Officials claimed the participants were also "very interested" in the high jump and long jump demonstrations that were on offer and showed a willingness to try both sports.

Participants also had the opportunity to take part in a fun relay around a mini athletics track, which brought the event to a close.
