Defending champion Chou Tien Chen booked his place in the men’s quarter-finals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Chinese Taipei Open today.

The tournament top seed faced an all-Chinese Taipei match in the Taipei Arena, with Chu Han Chou providing the opposition.

Despite Chu’s best efforts, the defending champion continued his path towards the final by comfortably winning 21-14, 21-12.

Chou will face another compatriot in the last eight, with Lin Yu Hsien having triumphed 21-15, 21-11 in his match with Malaysia’s Giap Chin Goh.

Hopes of an all-Chinese Taipei final still remain, as second seed Tzu Wei Wang beat his team-mate Hsueh Hsuan Yi on the other half of the draw.

He will now take on Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon for a place in the semi-finals.

Women’s second seed Hsu Ya Ching was unable to reach the quarter-finals today, with the home player falling to South Korea’s Ga Eun Kim.

Kim impressed throughout and eventually edged the contest 25-23, 23-21.

Goh won 21-6, 21-9 against South Korea’s Hyang Im Kim.

She will now face Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei.
