World Taekwondo has hosted a Partnership Workshop as part of its ongoing commitment to collaborating openly with potential bidders for events from 2019 to 2024.

A total of 33 sport councils, Member National Associations and agencies interested in hosting events within the six-year period attended the event on the sidelines of the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships.

During the workshop, participants received a number of presentations which outlined the benefits of hosting World Taekwondo events as well as more details on what was expected of potential hosts.

The workshop also gave participants the opportunity to share their expectations and learn more about what was needed to deliver a successful event.

Paris 2024 co-chairman Tony Estanguet shared his experiences from the French capital's Olympic bid during the opening of the workshop.

Additionally, World Taekwondo introduced its plans for enhancing sport presentation.

The governing body is keen to stage competitions in more engaging atmospheres and also to carry out impact studies to evaluate and communicate extensive legacies of events.

Potential hosts will be asked to register their bids by October, before submitting their final bid files at the start of next year.

The bids will then be reviewed by a group of experts, who will provide recommendations to the World Taekwondo Council members to help them make informed decisions.

The Partnership Workshop was followed by an inaugural orientation seminar for already scheduled hosts of World Taekwondo events.

Hosts of 23 events from 2017 to 2020 were invited to share their progress and hold discussions on how to organise them successfully.

Among the participants, were four new hosts selected at last week’s Council meeting.

The Council selected host cities for a range of upcoming events.

After a blind ballot, Fujairah, one of the seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, beat Bulgaria’s capital Sofia for the right to stage the 2018 Grand Prix Final and World Team Championships.

Tunisian town Hammamet will host the 2018 World Junior Taekwondo Championships, while the opening Grand Prix of 2018 and 2019 was awarded to Rome.

The third leg of the 2019 Grand Prix series went to Sofia and the 2020 Grand Prix Final and World Team Championships was given to Tunisia’s capital Tunis.

World Taekwondo's next selection is due to be made at its Council meeting in Tunis on April 4.

This will be during the World Taekwondo Junior Championships and Youth Olympic qualification tournaments.
