Wang Zhehao of China marked his debut in style as he shot a world junior record to clinch the gold medal in the men's 50 metres pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championships in Suhl in Germany.

The 18-year-old had never competed on the international stage before but produced a dominant display to finish at the top of the podium at the Schießsportzentrum.

Wang completed the event with a formidable total of 232.6 points to cap his maiden appearance in style.

Russia took home both the silver and bronze medals as Anton Aristarkhov was second, in front of compatriot Alexander Petrov.

Aristarkhov amassed a total of 229.7 points, with Petrov some way adrift on 206.2.

There was further success for China Zhu Yingjie won the women's 10m air rifle event.

The 17-year-old scored 250.3 points to beat nearest challenger Anna Janshen of Germany by 1.3.

Chen Yimei added to the Chinese haul with bronze.

Virginia Thrasher of the United States, the reigning Olympic champion, could only manage fifth.

Pavlo Korostylov of the Ukraine added the junior world crown to his Youth Olympic Games gold medal as he won the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event.

The Ukrainian, a two-time European junior champion who claimed a senior ISSF World Cup gold medal in Munich in May of last year, topped the podium with 26 hits.

Jang Ji-won of South Korea was forced to settle for silver as he finished one hit adrift.

It came after Korostylov scored three hits compared with Jang's two in the final series, which proved decisive in deciding the destination of the title.

Cheng Zhipeng of China marked his debut on the international stage with a bronze medal as he ended the competition on 22 hits.

Croatia's Marin Maricic won the gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle in a dramatic finish as he scored a 10.5 on his final shot to pip Liu Yukun of China by 0.1 points.

Borna Petanjek, also of Croatia, claimed bronze.
