Great Britain are safely through to the men's quarter-finals of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) European Championships in Tenerife as group stage action concluded today.

However, the defending champions finished second in Group B on the Canary Island after losing their unbeaten record.

Turkey recorded their fifth win from five matches with a 71-60 success over Britain, which saw them move into top spot.

Germany are also through after beating Israel 85-55 today.

The defeat did not prevent Israel's progression, however, as they moved into the quarter-finals in fourth place.

Sweden claimed their first win of the competition as they collected a 73-61 success over Lithuania, who finished bottom of Group B after losing all five matches.

In Group A, The Netherlands clinched first place after beating Spain.

The Dutch team managed to secure a narrow 60-54 success, leaving the hosts to settle for second.

Also through are Poland after they defeated Italy 71-55.

The Italians are still in contention for the title though after qualifying in fourth.

Switzerland remain without a win after they were beaten by fifth place France, 74-61.

Action will continue with the quarter-finals in the men's event tomorrow.

Britain take on Poland, Turkey will play Italy, The Netherlands meet Israel and Spain will play Germany.

In the women's event, Germany are through to the semi-finals in first place after defeating The Netherlands 61-55.

The Dutch team still qualified in second.

Spain failed to qualify for the semi-finals, however, after they were beaten today.

Britain saw off the hosts 71-40, guaranteeing them third place but denying the Spaniards a place in the last four as they slipped to fifth.

Turkey were consigned to last place having lost all of their matches.

France inflicted the latest defeat after claiming a 54-43 success and moved into fourth place as a result.

Germany will play France in the last four while Britain will take on The Netherlands for a place in the final.

Matches are being played at the Pabellón Las Torres and Pabellón Polideportivo Municipal de Adeje venues.
