Women's world number one Tai Tzu-ying carries home hopes at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Chinese Taipei Open, due to begin tomorrow.

The 23-year-old top seed won the competition last year as well as in 2012, and will compete at the Taipei Arena in good form.

Tai, the winner of last season's BWF Superseries Finals in Dubai, won the prestigious All England Open this term as well as major titles in Malaysia and Singapore.

She will begin her campaign for a home victory at the Grand Prix Gold level event by meeting a qualifier in round one.

The tournament comes after her run to the semi-finals at last week's BWF Australia Open in Gold Coast.

Another home player is seeded second in the women's draw with Hsu Ya-ching due to begin against Debora Rumate Vehrenica of Indonesia.

Third seed Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia could be the biggest threat to the home players, with the 2015 world junior champion beginning against Japan's Kaori Imabeppu.

In the men's competition, top seed Chou Tien-chen will also be looking to defend his home title for Chinese Taipei.

The 27-year-old will be looking for a fourth win in Taipei in all, and will start against Jimmy Yu Lun Tay of Malaysia.

Wang Tzu-wei, another Taiwanese, is seeded second and will face Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand in his first round clash.

South Korea's Jeon Hyeok-jin will be among those hoping to dent Chinese Taipei hopes, with the Sudirman Cup champion and sixth seed handed a first round clash with home player Chih Hsun Yang.

The competition is scheduled to conclude with finals next Sunday  (July 2).
