The National Olympic Committee of Albania has called a General Electoral Assembly for later this week ©KOKSH

The National Olympic Committee of Albania (KOKSH) has announced that current President Viron Bezhani will face a challenge for his position at a General Electoral Assembly on Friday (June 30).

Following a KOKSH Executive Committee meeting last Friday (June 23) it was announced that a vote would take place later this week at the Adriatic Hotel in the port city of Durrës.

There will be two candidates for the position with Ilir Trebicka running against Bezhani.

Vojo Malo and Skender Anxhaku are running for the position of vice-president while Genc Boga is the sole candidate for the role of treasurer.

During the Assembly, each candidate will have an opportunity to deliver a speech to Member Federations.

As well as the Presidential election, there a number of candidates for eight positions on the Executive Committee.

Ela Tase, Agron Cuka, Erald Dervishi, Arben Rakipi, Renis Tershana, Majlinda Pilinci, Ilir Gusho and Flobens Dilaveri are among the shortlist.

It is completed by Erli Pellumbi, Agim Ciraku, Koco Mikerezi, Labo Capo, Fatbardha Kovaci, Florend Kalivopulli, Edmond Bicoku, Gjergj Ruli, Elez Gjoza , Petrit Baba and Elvis Vulka.

Albania took part in their first Olympic Games at Munich 1972 and have competed in every Summer Olympics since Barcelona 1992.

Alpine skiers Erjon Tola and Suela Mehilli represented the country at its third Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, but the country has yet to win an Olympic medal of any colour.
