Choe Boram of South Korea broke the world junior record as he sealed the gold medal in the men's 10 metres air pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championships in Suhl today.

The 19-year-old was in superb form, shooting a score of 241.1 points to top the podium at the Schießsportzentrum in Suhl-Friedberg.

Choe managed to oust Pavlo Korostylov, gold medallist at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, with a superb 10.8 with his last shot.

The Ukrainian competitor, who had led the standings for the majority of the competition, fell some way short with a 9.2 as he was forced to settle for silver.

The bronze medal went the way of Italy's Paolo Monna, who scored 218.3 points to edge 15-year-old Indian Chaudhary Saurabh.

In the women's 10m air pistol final, Saurabh's compatriot Yashaswini Singh equalled the world junior record to secure her country's second title of the event in the German city.

Singh shot a total of 235.9 points to ensure she was crowned world junior champion in the discipline.

The 20-year-old, who moved into pole position midway through the competition before building a lead which proved too strong for the rest of the field, beat South Korea's Kim Woori and Italian Giulia Campostrini.

Woori earned silver on 231.8 points, while Campostrini's total of 212.1 was enough for bronze.

China dominated the 50m rifle three positions event, sweeping the podium with a dominant display.

Zhu Yingjie claimed gold in a thrilling finish as she shot a 10.1 to edge Peng Xinyi, ending on a score of 455.3 points.

Peng was a narrow 0.2 points adrift of her team-mate as her final shot of 9.7 proved costly.

Gao Ying took home the bronze medal with a score of 443.7.

Action resumes in Suhl tomorrow.
