Germany have continued their emphatic start in Tenerife to the defence of their women's International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) European Championships title.

The defending champions brushed aside France 74-39 to make it four wins out of four matches on the Canary Islands.

France were fourth following a 56-50 win against Spain last night but the Germans proved too strong and dominated the match.

The Netherlands joined them at the head of the standings as they collected their fourth win in as many matches.

A powerful display saw the Dutch team produce a 72-28 win over Spain.

Elsewhere in the women's competition, Great Britain dominated Turkey and claimed a deserved 66-22 win.

Defending champions Great Britain secured a fourth straight win in the men's event.

The British team recorded a 69-38 victory, helped by 16 points from Terence Bywater and 15 from Ghazain Choudhry.

France claimed the narrowest of victories over Poland.

Neither side could take control of the game and it was close throughout but the French just edged it 66-64.

The Netherlands recorded a comfortable 75-41 win over Switzerland, Israel edged Lithuania 65-54 and Spain defeated Italy 60-52.

Matches are being played at the Pabellón Las Torres and Pabellón Polideportivo Municipal de Adeje venues.

As well as continental glory, places at the 2018 IWBF World Championships in Hamburg are also up for grabs, with the best six men's teams reaching the German city.

Only one women's team will fail to qualify.
