Serbia and Latvia will be co-hosts of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's EuroBasket in 2019, it has been announced.

Serbia will organise two group phase pools in the cities of Nis and Zrenjanin and the final phase in Belgrade Arena.

The remaining two group phase pools will take place in Riga.

Serbia and Latvia were chosen after making presentations to the FIBA Europe Board during its meeting in Prague.

Russia also bid but were not chosen.

Israel had also initially bid to stage the group phase but withdrew before the meeting.

"The Board were very pleased to see that all hosting bids were of the highest quality and the presentations were prepared in a very professional manner," said FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel

"We would like to thank all three Federations for their excellent work."

The tournament is due to be held during June 2019.

The draw for the qualifiers, scheduled to start in November 2017, is due to take place on July 4 in Munich.

Women's EuroBasket has been held bi-annually since 1938, when they were staged in Rome and won by the hosts Italy.

Belgrade has hosted the event twice before, in 1954 and 1980, but the city was then the capital of Yugoslavia.

Both events were won by the Soviet Union.

Latvia hosted the final on its own in 2009 when the event was won by France, who beat Russia 57-53 in the final at Riga Arena.

The conclusion of this year's EuroBasket, which has taken place in the Czech Republic, is due to take place at the O2 Arena in Prague tonight when Spain play France.

Serbia, the 2015 champions, were, ironically, knocked out of this year's tournament by Latvia, who were then beaten in the quarter-finals by Spain.
