Sweden topped the podium in a close run competition in the International Equestrian Federation Nations Cup Jumping Division One in Rotterdam today.

After the first round, four teams had a score of zero with the remaining four just a single point behind at Kralingse Bos in the Dutch city.

However, a tougher second round saw the gold fought for by the Swedes and Switzerland’s team.

Eventually it came down to Rio 2016 Olympic Games individual jumping silver medallist Peder Fredricson onboard gelding H&M All In, who put together a clear round, to set up the victory.

It was confirmed when Marin Fuchs, riding Clooney, clipped a gate, meaning a jump-off would not be required.

The final result saw Sweden, who saw Henrik von Eckermann and Cantinero secure a double clear performance, end on four faults while Switzerland finished on eight.

Fredricson, who was not required to jump in the first round, said it was great to win and shows his horse is back on form.

“I warmed up for the first round, but all our riders went clear, so I didn’t have to go and I thought I’d save horse in case there was a jump-off,” he said.

“The fences were a bit bigger in the second round, but he jumped great and this is his first 1.60 metre competition since we won the silver medal in Rio because he had colic surgery, so I’m very happy.”

Italy and Spain shared third place with 12 faults each.
