India's Prannoy Kumar caused another surprise by beating Olympic champion Chen Long at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Indonesian Open.

The 24-year-old knocked out top seed and defending champion Lee Chong Wei in the second round yesterday and followed that with quarter-final success against China's Chen.

Kumar won in three games at the Jakarta Convention Center, 21-18, 16-21, 21-19.

He will now play Japan's Kazumasa Sakai in the last four, who proved too strong for England's Rajiv Ouseph with a 13-21, 21-16, 21-10 success.

South Korea's second ranked Son Wan-ho is the only seed left in the men's draw of the Super Series event after he defeated Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien-chen 21-15, 21-17.

It was not a good day for the Taiwanese as top women's seed Tai Tzu-ying also exited.

She was beaten in the last eight by Thailand's Nichaon Jindapon, 21-19, 8-21, 21-17.

The Thai will now play Japan's Sayaka Sato, who upset compatriot and third seed Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 18-21, 21-18.

South Korea's Sung Ji-hyun is the sole seeded player left thanks to a win over China's Chen Xiaoxin, 21-6, 21-23, 21-14.

Her prize is a clash with American Zhang Beiwen, who ousted China's Sun Yu 21-15, 21-19.

The semi-finals will be played tomorrow.
