Tokyo 2020 chiefs have opened up the tender process for a designer to come forward to take on temporary overlay projects for the Games.

Organisers are calling for companies wanting to work on temporary architecture elements at a number of venues which will be used during the event in the Japanese capital in three years’ time.

The architecture in question relates to parts of stadiums and competition sites which are only there during the Games, due to run from July 24 to August 9.

Contracts will run for nine months when the projects are authorised, with the deadline for applications coming on June 30.

Venues which the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee are seeking contractors for overlay projects include the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre.

Tenders are also being sought for work at the Sea Forest Waterway, where canoeing and rowing events will be held, and the Asaka Shooting Range.

When asked by insidethegames, Tokyo 2020 officials said they will be accepting applications from companies based both in Japan and abroad.

“The rule is, if you want to apply to the tender, the company must have an official license, as per Article 23 of Japan’s Act on Architects and Building Engineers,” a Tokyo 2020 spokesperson said.
