Thomas Wesselhoff, the recently elected President of the Swedish Weightlifting Federation (SWF), has died just a month after taking office.

The 57-year-old suffered a heart attack yesterday morning.

He was preparing to travel to Thai capital Bangkok for the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Electoral Congress, which is due to take place on May 29 and 30.

Wesselhoff was elected by the delegates present at the SWF's annual meeting on April 23, with 40 taking part in the vote for the President and Executive Board.

The official replaced Eva Helgesson, who chose to resign after two terms as the President of the organisation.

Wesselhoff also took part in the Electoral Congress of the Swedish Sport Federation this month.

He worked in the real estate sector and holds a degree in behavioural science, education planning and staff development.

He held several other positions within Swedish sport and belonged to the club Skara AK.

Kjell-Åke Johansson was re-elected as vice-president for a two-year term during the elections last month.

It remains to be seen who will replace Wesselhoff as SWF President.
