Four days of key skiing meetings are due to begin tomorrow at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Calendar Conference in Portoroz in Slovenia.

The event at the Grand Hotel Bernardin will feature meetings covering all of the FIS disciplines.

Described by the governing body as "the basis for a successful winter season", many important decisions are expected to be made by FIS Committees and members.

A key announcement will be the appointment of a host city for the 2020 FIS Congress, which will take place during a meeting of the ruling FIS Council.

Membership applications from new countries will also be considered, while there will be a briefing with the candidates for the 2023 FIS World Championships.

Courchevel-Meribel in France will battle against Austrian entry Saalbach-Hinterglemm for the right to host the 2023 Alpine World Championships.

The contest to host the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2023 will pit Planica in Slovenia against Trondheim in Norway.

Another big part of the meetings will be an update on the FIS Strategic Plan, which is due to take place on the final day of the Conference on Saturday (May 27).

Rules and regulations will also be discussed as well as the fine-tuning of competition calendars, including the World Cups.

Another important part of the meetings will be to discuss and share knowledge and experience from last season.
