Spectators have been urged to submit their ticket requests for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games before applications close at 11.59pm local time on May 22.

Gold Coast 2018 chairman Peter Beattie said they had received a strong response from the public since requests opened on April 24, but urged those that had not already submitted their request to do so before time runs out.

“We are anticipating a high volume of ticket requests right throughout the day on Monday so we encourage people to make the most of this weekend and not wait until the last minute to submit their request,” Beattie said.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and placing a ticket request gives spectators the very best chance to secure tickets for the most in-demand sports sessions.

“Spectators can submit their ticket request online and no preference will be given to the time of day or date a ticket request is placed.”

The process is standard practice at every Commonwealth Games and major global sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games and Wimbledon.

Spectators can place a ticket request at any time but, after the conclusion of the phase, all unsold tickets will be released for sale on a first-come, first-served basis in July.

For any sessions that receive more ticket requests than there is availability, tickets will be awarded via a "fair and equal" draw.

“With a total of 278 competition sessions and over 1,000 hours of world class sporting competition over the course of the 11 days during Gold Coast 2018, spectators have a wide variety of sports, venues and experiences to choose from,” added Gold Coast 2018 chief executive Mark Peters said.

“We encourage spectators to think broadly about their Gold Coast 2018 experience and consider all sessions, not just the finals, as all the great athletes have to qualify through the preliminaries.

“We have ensured the ticket request process is as simple as possible and encourage people to make the most of helpful advice included on our website."
