Al Zeyodi claimed the Federation are making every effort to develop Olympic athletes in the sport over the coming years.

He made the comments as the country continued to participate at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Azerbaijan’s capital city Baku.

Ahmad Alhosani and Hassan Shubbar are the country’s two representatives at the Games, with the UAE hopeful the pair will put in a strong display.

Al Zeyodi has stated a talent identification programme is in place in schools in the country, with their Schools Olympics aimed at helping to find impressive taekwondo athletes.

"We are happy with the deliverables of the talent identification programmes as they supply the federation with latent talents in our schools to identify early on and work on them," said Al Zeyodi.

"The School Olympics is an ambitious programme, and we will seek to engage our talented students in local events, before planning their future participations in world events.

"The existence of clubs is a cornerstone of the structures, and their cooperation contributes to realising the intended objectives."

Al Zeyodi also suggested that the upcoming Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018 would offer the country’s athletes an ideal preparation as they aim to qualify for Tokyo 2020. 

The United Arab Emirates have only been represented once in taekwondo at the Olympics, with Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum having competed at Beijing 2008.
