Chile’s Esteban Bustos, Hungary’s Norbert Horvath and South Korea’s Jung Jinhwa won their respective men’s qualification groups as action continued today at the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup in Kecskemét.

Jung scored 1,119 points in the Hungarian city to beat nearest challenger Sherif Rashad of Egypt by a margin of eight in Group A.

Fellow South Korean Hwang Woojin came third with 1,110, while Great Britain's Sam Curry ended up fourth with 1,106. 

In Group B, home favourite Horvath finished with an unrivalled 1,127.

That was four more than both Ukraine’s Denys Pavlyuk and Germany’s Patrick Dogue in second and third respectively.

Bustos topped Group C with 1,127.

Runner-up Jun Woongtae of South Korea matched that score, as did third-placed Pavel Ilyashenko of Kazakhstan.

A total of 36 athletes advanced through to the final scheduled for Sunday (May 7).

Action in Kecskemét is due to continue tomorrow with the women’s final.

The event is the third World Cup competition of the season.

It is then due to head to Drzonkow in Poland for the penultimate competition of the regular season from May 25 to 29.

Vilnius in Lithuania is set to stage the World Cup Final from June 23 to 25.
