Tobias Torgersen has been appointed head coach of Poland's women's biathlon team.

The 34-year-old Norwegian is replacing Adam Kolodziejczyk who resigned in February after being in the role since 2011.

Torgersen has penned a one-year contract with the task of preparing the country's female stars for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea in February.

Poland's women's team won two bronze medals at the 2015 World Championships in Kontiolahti in Finland, both courtesy of Weronika Nowakowska who is now returning from maternity leave.

Krystyna Guzik, Magdalena Gwizdoń, Monika Hojnisz, Kinga Mitoraj, Kamila Żuk and Anna Mąka are also members of the squad.

"I am really excited about this challenge," said Torgersen, who won a relay bronze at the World Junior Championships in Khanty Mansiysk in Russia in 2001.

Polish Biathlon President Dagmara Gerasimuk added: "Tobias Torgersen gives faith that we will have a good preparation for Pyeongchang.

"His appointment has been met very positively by our athletes."

The Polish men's team is coached by Nikolai Panitkin.
