The British Lionhearts secured an impressive away win at the Morocco Atlas Lions to seal top spot in Group B of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) in Casablanca.

The visitors recorded a 4-1 victory over the Moroccan team at the Salle Omnisport Complexe to progress to the quarter-finals in style.

They were joined in reaching the next round by the Russia's Patriot Boxing Team, who edged a thrilling Group C match-up with the Uzbek Tigers at the Sukharev Sport Complex in Perm.

The winner of the contest was guaranteed a spot in the last eight and the home side managed to claim a narrow success to prolong their stay in this year's WSB.

Muhammad Ali, who represented Britain at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, got his side off to the perfect start with a unanimous triumph against Imad Ahyoun in the flyweight division.

Calum French then eased to a dominant lightweight category win over Abdellah Boudrar to move the British Lionhearts to within one bout of securing victory.

Pat McCormack, who also competed for Britain at Rio 2016, completed the job for the away team, but he was made to work hard for his success, edging a tight welterweight encounter with Belgium's Anas Messaoudi by split decision.

Egyptian veteran light-heavyweight Abdelrahman Salah Orabi pulled one back for the hosts as he accounted for Bulgaria's Radoslav Pantaleev, who lost his unbeaten record by virtue of the defeat to the Uzbek Tigers fighter.

A brilliant night for the Lionhearts squad was rounded off by Bulgarian Petar Belberov's super-heavyweight win over Mohammed Arjaoui.

In Group C, Abrorjon Kodirov got the Uzbek Tigers on the board by beating the Patriot Boxing Team's Viacheslav Tashkarakov in their flyweight bout.

Former Russian national champion Konstantin Bogomazov then marked his return after a three-year hiatus from the WSB with a win over Ulugbek Dusmuradov at lightweight to restore parity, before welterweight Artem Zaytsev put the home team in front by overcoming Odiljon Aslonov.

World Championship bronze medalist Pavel Silyagin of Russia had the opportunity to send his side through to the quarter-finals when he took to the ring against debutant Madiyar Saidrakhimov and he duly obliged with a split decision triumph in the light-heavyweight bout.

That rendered the last bout of the evening as a dead rubber, with super-heavyweight Mirzobek Khasanov clinching a consolation victory over Artem Suslenkov.

In Group A, the Cuba Domadores swept the card to earn a 5-0 thrashing of the Colombia Heroicos at the Coliseo Ciudad Deportiva in Havana.

In the same group, the Caciques Venezuela claimed a similarly dominant win as they beat the Argentina Condors at the Estadio Federación Argentina de Box in Buenos Aires.

Both teams qualified for the next round as the Cuban team finished at the summit of the pool, with Caciques clinching second.
