Japanese third seed Ayumi Mine was among leading names to crash out of the women's singles draw at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) China Masters in Changzhou today.

The world number 16 was ousted by Taiwan's Hung Yi-ting despite winning the first game at the Olympic Sports Center.

Hung eventually prevailed 9-21, 21-17, 21-18 in 47 minutes.

It proved a mixed day for Taiwan, however, as two of their seeded players crashed out.

Seventh seed Chen Su Yu lost 21-8, 21-11 to Zhang Yiman of China before sixth ranked Sung Shuo Yun was defeated by another home player in Cai Yanyan, 21-17, 21-12.`

There were no such problems for the top two seeds, however.

China's top ranked Chen Yufei continued a good day for the host nation by sweeping past Haruko Suzuki of Japan 21-11, 21-17.

Second rated Aya Ohori then dished out some Japanese revenge by beating China's Wang Zhiyi 21-15, 21-19.

There was similarly serene progress for top seed Lin Dan in the men's singles draw.

The six-time champion and 2016 winner beat Qin Zheng of Chile 21-15, 21-11 in his opening clash.

Second, third and fourth seeds Tian Houwei, Qiao Bin and Huang Yuxiang all safely joined their fellow countryman in progressing.

Tian won an all-Chinese clash 21-18, 21-15 with Guo Kai while Qiao battled past Taiwan's Chang En Chia 21-11, 21-16.

Huang had the toughest examination before prevailing 21-16, 21-19 over Hashiro Shimono of Japan.

Action is due to continue tomorrow before finals on Sunday (April 23).
