Australia's Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy claimed top honours at the Asian Beach Volleyball Championships in Thai city Songkhla, beating China's Fan Wang and Yuan Yue 21-19, 21-17 in the final at Samila Beach.

It was just their second event together this year, with the first seeing them lose the Satun Pak Bara Master final, also in Thailand, to the same opponents last week.

Clancy, 24, was forced to sit out the start of this year with injury, leaving Bawden to partner with fellow Olympians Nicole Laird and Mariafe Artacho del Solar for the Australian tour.

"Last week’s loss gave us huge motivation to keep winning and fight them again this time," Bawden said.

"I think we did a very good job today.

"We wanted to fight although we learned well that the Chinese are very strong.

"We lost to them last week, so, we had to bring our best to take the title back.

"It was great that we finished on top of the podium this time."

Fellow Australians Laird and Phoebe Bell won the bronze medal contest at the expense of Indonesia's Putu Dini Jasita Utami and Dhita Juliana, 21-8, 17-21, 15-8.

In the men's final, Iran’s Rahman Raoufi and Bahman Salemiinjehboroun overcame Indonesia's Ade Candra Rachmawan and Muhammad Asfiya 22-20, 12-21, 15-12.

Australia's Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann took third place with a 23-21, 21-14 win over Qatar’s Júlio Nascimento and Ahmed Tijan.
