Seven home players were among the winners as men's singles action began at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) China Masters in Changzhou today.

It came on the first day of competition before the highest ranked players enter proceedings tomorrow.

Gu Junfeng was the first home player to progress, requiring just 31 minutes to see off Wang Yuehang of England 21-11, 21-15.

Zhou Zeqi then defeated Indonesia's Muhammad Baya Pangisthu in a far tighter 58 minute duel.

The home player eventually prevailed 21-17, 11-21, 21-19.

Ye Binghong then beat American Yan Tuck Can 21-9, 21-13 in 22 minutes before Sun Feixiang required 36 minutes to see off another Indonesian in Panji Ahmad Maulana 21-15, 21-16.

Yan Runze also beat South Africa's Jacob Maliekal 21-18, 21-15 while Zhu Siyuan thrashed Kai Ho Tang of England 21-9, 21-8.

It was not a perfect day for home players, however, with Yupeng Bai ousted 21-11, 18-21, 21-11 by Thailand's Suppanyu Avihingsanon. 

Hashiru Shimono of Japan also defeated Hongyang Weng 21-19, 9-21, 21-15 in 51 minutes.

Six-time champion and 2016 winner Lin Dan will open his account tomorrow.

The two-time Olympic champion will face Qin Zheng of Chile in his opening clash tomorrow.

Women's singles first round action is also due to begin at the Olympic Sports Center.
