Athletics Australia has confirmed six athletes who will compete at this year's World Para Athletics Championships in London.

The governing body has handed places in the squad to Paralympic Games gold medallists James Turner and Scott Reardon, as well as reigning world champions Isis Holt, Madison de Rozario, Angela Ballard and Todd Hodgetts.

Turner won the men's 800 metres T36 gold at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, crossing the line in a world record time of 2 mins 02.39 sec.

Reardon added the 100m T42 Paralympic title in the Brazilian city to the World Championships gold he won in the same event in 2015 in Doha.

Holt will head to London as the 100m and 200m T35 defending world champion.

De Rozario and Ballard both compete in the T53 class for wheelchair racers.

In Doha in 2015, De Rozario won 800m T53 gold while Ballard was victorious over 200m and 400m in the Middle East.

Hodgetts was also successful in Qatar as he won the shot put F20 event.

After winning gold in the shot put F20 at London 2012, Hodgetts dropped to the bronze medal at Rio 2016.

More than 3,000 athletes from 200 countries are set to compete at the World Para Athletics Championships, scheduled for July 14 to 23, at the Olympic Stadium in London.

They will be followed by the International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships the following month at the same stadium.

"These athletes are gold medallists from either the World Championships in Doha in 2015 or the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and also have a combination of at least two Athletics Australia ‘A’ or ‘B’ standards for their selected events," said Dion Russell, the chairman of selectors.

“The qualification period for the event continues until June 5 and we will again select the largest and strongest team possible to compete in London, where we enjoyed fantastic success at the Paralympic Games five years ago."

The qualification period for Australian Para-athletes hoping to compete at London 2017 is set to continue in the coming weeks across various competitions in Australia and around the world.
