The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) has backed a women's wheelchair basketball camp which will be held in Thai capital Bangkok.

The event, organised by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation's (IWBF) Asia Oceania Zone (AOZ), will take place between April 16 and 21.

Developing women's wheelchair basketball across Asia and creating more national teams are considered key goals.

It is hoped the APC's support will make the camp accessible for more female players.

The International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) development arm, The Agitos Foundation, is also backing the camp alongside the World Wheelchair Express Foundation.

"The Asian Paralympic Committee are very happy to assist with the promotion of women in sport in the Asian region, and we see this camp as a great opportunity for women to further explore the sport of wheelchair basketball," said Claire Magras, the APC's relations and services manager.

Japan are the most successful Asian women's basketball side at the Paralympic Games.

The country won bronze at both the 1984 and 2000 editions.

"The contribution from the Asian Paralympic Committee will allow us to help some women who may otherwise have not been able to afford to attend the camp," said IWBF AOZ secretary general Don Perriman.

"We are now in a position to offer travel assistance to more participants, which we hope will encourage greater attendance."
