Germany's Isabell Werth stormed to her third International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Dressage title by triumphing at the season-ending finals in Omaha today.

The six-time Olympic champion was in fine form in the American city, riding Weihegold to victory at the Centurylink Center.

The pair were awarded a score of 90.704 to keep their rivals at bay.

It means that Werth has reclaimed a title she last won a decade ago.

"It’s special to win again after ten years, to come back with a different kind of horse and after a really great season," she said.

"I'm very happy and I’m also thankful, because I know what it’s like to be downstairs, and I’m really happy and grateful to be upstairs again."

Werth competed last and disappointed the home crowd by replacing home rider Laura Graves at the top of the pile.

The American and Verdades had to settle for second place with a score of 85.307.

Britain's Carl Hester did enough for third riding Nip Tuck, scoring 83.757.

"I knew her day could be today, and Laura pushed me to show what we could do, I’m so happy," Werth added.

"Tonight we’ll definitely have a party."

Graves had mixed feelings after her runners-up performance in front of a home crowd.

"I didn’t realise how badly I wanted to win," she said.

"I said on Thursday I'd give it a run for the money, and today I thought 'oh I want that so badly', but finishing second to the number one in the world still feels a lot like winning.

"This is my first time on a podium as an individual and that was very special.

"I won’t forget it, that’s for sure."
