Canada and Japan continued their unbeaten records at the final round two event of the men's Hockey World League (HWL) in Tacarigua in Trinidad and Tobago.

In the second set of round robin matches, the Canadians romped past Chile 5-1 in Pool A while Japan overcame Russia 3-1 in Pool B.

Fernando Renz had given Chile a surprise lead before two goals from Mark Pearson inspired the North American fightback at Trinidad and Tobago's National Hockey Center.

Two strikes from Kenta Tanaka proved decisive in a comfortable Japanese win.

Canada beat United States 4-2 in their opening game while Japan were 3-0 winners over Switzerland.

The US and the Trinidadian hosts also gained their first victories of the competition today.

Pat Harris scored twice as the US thrashed Barbados 7-1.

Trinidad and Tobago overcame Switzerland 6-2.

Kwan Browne led the scoring charts for the hosts with a brace of goals.

Stefan Mouttet, Marcus James, Tariq Marcana and Shaquille Daniel also scored for the home side.

Action in Tacarigua is due to continue on Tuesday (March 28) with a final round of pool stage matches.

The US will face Chile and Canada will lock horns with Barbados in Pool A.

In Pool B, Switzerland are due to meet Russia while Japan will take on Trinidad and Tobago.

Quarter-final ties are then due to begin on Thursday (March 30).
