World Archery boss Uğur Erdener has been re-elected as President of the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC) at an Ordinary General Assembly held at their headquarters today.

The 66-year-old was the only candidate for the top position in Istanbul.

He will duly serve a fresh four year term after first taking control of the national body in 2011.

"I am honoured to have been re-elected President of the Turkish Olympic Committee," he told insidethegames today.

"It gives me great pleasure to know that I can continue to lead the TOC as it strives to provide the best support possible for our athletes on their journey to success.

"At the TOC we are always looking to improve the physical wellbeing of our citizens.

"This must begin at an early age and that is why we will continue to work hard on making sport accessible to as many young people as possible.

"I would like to thank our Board members for their support and trust in me to continue leading the TOC."

Erdener, a professor of Ophthalmology at Hacettepe University, is currently one of the busiest sporting officials.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) vice-president also sits on the World Anti-Doping Agency Executive Committee and Foundation Board.

He also chairs the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission.

Last week, he was appointed co-chair of a new IOC Working Group considering Olympic bidding reforms including the possible awarding of both the 2024 and 2028 Games at September's Session in Lima.

Hasan Arat, the head of Istanbul's unsuccessful bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, remains one of the two TOC vice-presidents along with Nihat Usta.

Türker Arslan is the organisation's deputy chairman while Neşe Gundogan remains secretary general.

The new ruling Board will be hoping to ensure an improvement on Turkey's haul of one gold, three silver and four bronze medals secured at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Wrestler Taha Akgül secured the solitary gold in the under 125 kilograms freestyle category.
