Brazil capped another superb day at the Youth Parapan American Games in São Paulo by edging arch-rivals Argentina in the football five-a-side final.

It came as the host nation guaranteed themselves top position on the medals table with one day of competition still to come.

They have already secured 136 medals of which 64 are gold - 17 more than second placed Colombia.

A goal from Jonathan proved decisive in a 1-0 victory.

It avenged a Brazilian defeat by the same scoreline against the Argentinians earlier in the tournament.

“I came with the idea of working with these young players thinking about renewing the senior team,” said head coach Fabio Vasconcelos.

“Brazil played a great game, deserved to win and I leave very happy.”

Mexico were taken to penalties before beating Colombia 1-0 in the bronze medal match.

Brazil also secured gold medals today in both women’s goalball and sitting volleyball.

They followed a 2-1 sitting volleyball win over United States with a 10-0 goalball thrashing over Mexico.

Colombia beat Venezuela 3-0 in the men's sitting volleyball final.

Football seven-a-side, wheelchair basketball and men's goalball finals are all scheduled for the final day of competition tomorrow.

Mexico currently lie third on the medals table with 22 golds.

Argentina lie just one behind on 21.
