Rapiscan Systems have been announced as the official security screening equipment supplier for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The security screening company are reprising the role they held at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Rapiscan’s experience in providing event security solutions also includes the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup and the London 2012 Olympics.

Their state-of-the-art security equipment and services were demonstrated at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, which will host swimming and diving events at the Games.

This included metal detection and x-ray machines.

Gold Coast 2018 chairman Peter Beattie claimed the company’s experience was crucial as

“Rapiscan has had strong experience delivering security scanning solutions for previous Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and other major international sporting events,” said Beattie.

“Importantly for fans, the products help to deliver a safe and secure environment while still allowing for efficient access to venues for patrons, athletes and officials in an unobtrusive manner.

“I welcome Rapiscan to the Gold Coast 2018 sponsor family and look forward to working with them to deliver a great Games in 2018.”

Rapiscan will provide and install all physical security screening equipment at the Commonwealth Games Village, as well as venues.

The global security screening company currently operate in over 100 countries worldwide.

In December, Gold Coast appointed MSS Security, Wilson Security, SecureCorp and SNP to provide more than 4,000 security personnel during the Games, which will take place from April 4 to 15.

The four company consortium will provide the largest security workforce appointed in Australia in the past decade, with 30 per cent set to be recruited from south-east Queensland.

Jupiters, Griffith University and Tafe are all official partners of Gold Coast 2018, with KPMG, MinterEllison, Seek, Tickettek, Atos, Aggreko and Hard Yakka all official supporters.

Centium Softwatre, GPY&R, MediaCom, GL events, ExpoNet, Tourism Australia and Diadora are all official suppliers of the Games.
