Five Egyptian’s booked their place in the men’s individual final as the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup continued in Cairo.

The host nation enjoyed a positive day, with Ahmed Hamed leading their challenge by ending in fifth place during today’s qualifying.

His compatriots Yasser Hefny, Sherif Rashad, Eslam Hamad and Mohanad Shaban would also secured their places in the final, ending among the 36 qualifiers.

Qualification was led by Pierre Dejardin in the Egyptian capital with the Frenchman coming before Dimitar Krastanov of Bulgaria.

Rio 2016 silver medallist Pavlo Tymoshchenko qualified comfortably in 19th place, but the Ukrainian will hope to provide a strong challenge in the final.

World number one Valetin Prades was also among the top names to advance at the Cairo International Stadium.

The French athlete ended qualifying in sixth position.

Women’s individual qualification is scheduled to take place tomorrow with finals due to be held between March 24 and 26.

Egypt are holding the event ahead of the country staging the World Championships later this year, with the competition also due to be held in the capital city.

The World Cup is the second event of the season, following the campaign getting underway in Los Angeles last month.

Hungary’s Bence Demeter was the winner of the men's event as he came from behind to claim a dramatic victory.

World number one Lena Schoeneborn of Germany topped the podium for the ninth time in her career at a World Cup event in the women's race in the American city.
