The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee has signed an agreement with SNCF Group, France's national state-owned railway company.

The organisation has pledged to use its international network to "bring territories closer".

SNCF operates the country's national rail services, including the high-speed TGV.

As part of the partnership, SNCF will assist on all areas involving transport and mobility in both the planning and delivery stages of the Games, should the French capital be successful with its bid against American city Los Angeles.

The company's 150,000 staff are said to be "devoted to the Paris 2024 project."

SNCF's trains and stations, which serve more than five million people daily in France, will now bear the Paris 2024 logo.

Services also connect France to numerous European countries, serving 13.5 million people on a daily basis, it is claimed.

"The SNCF support will be a tremendous asset for our visionary bid," said Paris 2024 chief executive Etienne Thobois.

"Paris 2024 has an international focus, and we want to ensure we involve all parts of France and countries beyond our borders in the Games.

"The SNCF’s arrival will not only enable us to develop the national and European approach of our project but it will also reinforce the strength of our concept with the expertise of a leader in transport, an element which has always been a major issue for host cities."

It is the second deal signed by Paris 2024 this week after a social charter was agreed between the bid and five major trade unions on Monday (March 20).

Paris 2024 co-chairmen Bernard Lapasset and Tony Estanguet penned the agreement, which the Bid Committee claimed "reinforces the strong unity" behind their attempt at securing the hosting rights for the Games.

It was signed by Paris 2024, the General Confederation of Labour, Force Ouvrière, the French Democratic Confederation of Labour, the French Confederation of Management and the French Confederation of Christian Workers.

The charter comprises 16 commitments involving the Organising Committee as well as other companies and public authorities, should Paris be chosen as the host city of the 2024 Games at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Lima on September 13.

Calls for the IOC to award both the 2024 and 2028 editions to Paris and Los Angeles respectively have gathered pace in recent months.

Yesterday, however, Estanguet said there would be "no Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2028" if their bid for the Games four years earlier is unsuccessful.

At a round-table event in London, Estanguet once again reiterated that the French capital's bid is solely for 2024 and ruled out any notion of hosting in 2028.

Los Angeles has also insisted that they only have eyes for 2024.

"We have only one objective and that is to host the Games in 2024," Estanguet said.

"We only have the ability to hold the Games in 2024, our project is made only for 2024.

"There will be no Games in Paris in 2028.

"It is now or never with Paris."
