An official logo inspired by the Beijing Opera has been unveiled for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup 2019 during a ceremony in Shanghai today.

The design consisting of a distinctive red, blue and yellow emblem alongside the tournament branding is described as featuring a similar style to that seen at the opera, one of the "most symbolic cultural icons of China".

It aims to symbolise characteristics such as "wisdom, persistence, power and perfection".

These are hailed as: "The exact qualities the participating players and national teams at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will need in order to succeed."

It was unveiled at a ceremony featuring FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann, FIBA Coordination Commission chair Burton Shipley and Shanghai vice-Mayor Weng Tiehui.

Chinese Basketball Association President and tournament ambassador Yao Ming was also present.

Representatives of FIBA's partners Beijing Enterprises Group, Infront Sports & Media, Molten, Nike, the Perform Group, Tencent and Wanda also attended the event.

A special YouTube video, available below, has also been produced about the logo unveiling.
