The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) have announced that New Zealander Barbara Kendall will be the guest speaker at their Hall of Fame ceremony.

The 49-year-old International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and former sailor will attend the event at the Sofitel in Nadi on March 31.

She won the Olympic sailboard gold medal at the Barcelona 1992 Games before winning silver at Atlanta 1996 and bronze at Sydney 2000.

"We are glad that Barbara will be able to share her story which will be heard by both athletes and sports administrators," said Lorraine Mar, the chief executive of FASANOC.

"She is a passionate woman who has a keen interest in athletes and their careers after sports."

Last month, FASANOC invited nominations for induction into the Hall of Fame.

FASANOC convenor Makarita Lenoa described it as "an opportunity to nominate and recognise athletes and administrators who have achieved sporting excellence at the highest level and contributed to the development of sport in Fiji".

Fiji had a 54-strong athlete delegation at last year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where their men's rugby sevens triumph ensured the country's first medal in the history of the Games.
