Canadians Julie Gordon and Camille Saxton have won their second consecutive International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour tournament in Australia after winning in Sydney today.

Earlier this month, the duo were the overall victors at the event held in Shepparton and at the latest leg today on Manly Beach, they were victorious once again.

The Canadian pair, who did not drop a set in Shepparton and lost only one at Manly, secured their place in the final with a 21-18, 21-16 straight-sets win over Australian top seeds Louise Bawden and Nicole Laird.

They were joined in the final by Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Jessyka Ngauamo of Australia.

The home favourites saw off Germany’s Anni Schumacher and Kim Behrens, 21-19, 21-17.

Gordon and Saxton were unstoppable in the early stages of the final, cruising to the opening set 21-14.

The second proved much more difficult, however, with Gordon and Saxton trailing 6-1 at one stage.

The Canadians, however, responded magnificently to come from behind and take it 21-16.

"We’re building and building, and every experience we really appreciate,” Gordon said.

"We’re still a young team, and it’s all coming down to maturity and having to deal with what we have to deal with.

"Every single match we’re looking for something new, and we’re learning so much about each other, and how we can rely on each other as a new team."

Tournament top seeds Bawden and Laird responded after losing the semi-final by defeating Germany’s Schumacher and Behrens to win the bronze medal.

The Australians won the opening set 21-18 but were pegged back by the Germans who levelled the contest at one set apiece after winning the second 24-22.

Bawden and Laird went on to secure third place, however, winning the third and decisive set 15-11.
