Austria’s Stefan Kraft set a world record-breaking leap at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup in Vikersund today, but it was not enough to deny hosts Norway flying hill team gold.

Kraft jumped 253.5 metres in the first round, beating the mark of 252m set by Norway’s Robert Johansson earlier in the event.

Prior to today, the record stood at 251.5m and had been held by Johansson’s compatriot Anders Fannemel since 2015.

Norway’s team, which along with Johansson also featured Daniel Andre Tande, Johann Andre Forfang and Andreas Stjernen, won with a total of 1,572.6 points from eight jumps.

Poland’s Piotr Zyla, Dawid Kubacki, Maciej Kot and Kamil Stoch came second with 1,538.6 points, while Kraft and team-mates Michael Hayboeck, Manuel Fettner and Gregor Schlierenzauer finished third with 1,465.4.

Today’s event doubled as the penultimate stage of the Raw Air Tournament, which consists of 10 events in as many days in Norway.

Andreas Wellinger, whose country Germany came fifth today, remains top of the standings on 1,879.5 points going into tomorrow’s flying hill individual competition.

Kraft is 6.2 points behind in second spot, while Stoch is a further 67.3 back.
