Australian pairings had a mixed day on home sand as the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event on Manly Beach got under way.

Alice and Johannah Rohkamper, Katie Bartoli and Mariafe Artacho del Solar are all natives of Sydney and made the most of their home advantage and knowledge on the same beach where they grew up playing the sport.

The Rohkamper’s proved too strong against England’s Victoria Palmer and Jessica Grimson as they romped to a 21-13, 21-14 victory in the space of 30 minutes.

This was followed up by Bartoli who with her playing partner Christie Jenkins put Canadian pairing Tessa Davis and Rachel Cockrell to the sword eventually, taking both sets 21-18.

Del Solar completed an excellent day for the host nation as she and Jessyka Ngauamo defeated New Zealanders Danielle Quigley and Micah Brown 21-12, 22-20.

For the three winning Australian sides, there were also a trio of pairings from the nation who fell in the opening round.
