The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has appointed umpires from 25 countries to officiate at two Softball World Championships which are taking place this year.

The 15th edition of the Men's Softball World Championship is set to take place in Whitehorse in Canada between July 7 and 16.

It has been announced that 24 umpires from 15 countries will make up the on-field officiating crews.

Umpires for the flagship men's softball competition will come from countries including Argentina, Australia, China, Cuba, Puerto Rico and South Africa.

The tournament was last held in 2015 in Saskatoon in Canada, where the hosts were victorious for the first time since 1992.

They defeated New Zealand 10-5 in the gold medal match while Venezuela claimed the bronze medal.

Thirty umpires from 23 countries will oversee refereeing duties at the 2017 Junior Women's Softball World Championship, which will be held in Clearwater in Florida between July 24 and 30.

Umpires overseeing the action are due to arrive from countries including The Bahamas, Bulgaria, Israel and Nicaragua.

The under-19 event was last held two years ago in Oklahoma City where the United States were victorious on home soil.

The Americans claimed a comfortable 8-1 win over Japan in the final while Puerto Rico took third place.

The squads for both tournaments, the draw for the pool stages and complete schedules are set to be announced at a later date.

"This global selection of umpires highlights the growing base of knowledgeable softball officials and leaders around the world," said WBSC Softball Division President Dale McMann.

"These important officials ensure the integrity of our Softball World Championships and also help ensure our sport is officiated uniformly in their home countries, which is a key factor in our development aims to grow our sport."
