Paris 2024 co-chair Tony Estanguet believes the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission inspection in May is a "unique occasion to really demonstrate the quality" of the French capital's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The IOC Evaluation Commission is due to travel to the French capital between May 14 and 16.

The delegation will spend three days in both Paris and its opponent Los Angeles in the coming months and will benefit for the first time from information gathered beforehand by a number of experts.

The advisers will focus on several areas including transport, venues, finance and sustainability, and will assess the two candidate cities before reporting to the Commission before their visit.

It is claimed the pre-visits will allow candidate cities to address detailed technical matters directly with the IOC in advance of the Evaluation Commission visits.

As a consequence, the Commission will conduct more targeted visits focusing on the delivery of the Olympic Games and on the athletes' experience, the IOC has claimed.

"It is a unique occasion to really demonstrate the quality of our project," Estanguet told insidethegames today, exactly six months before a host is elected.

"It is very, very important for us to show that we will have a unique celebration of the Games.

"We want to show the quality of our venues, not only sporting venues but also our city’s iconic ones, and the compactness of the project.

"We also want to show our team because we have expertise in every area of what is a complex organisation.

"This is only one side of things because we also want to show the possible legacy and meaning of our project and the idea of sharing the values of Olympism.

"It will be important for us to demonstrate those two pillars, the passion of the Games with unique celebration, but also the purpose of Olympism by having a strong and wide legacy plan."

Patrick Baumann, secretary general of the International Basketball Federation and President of SportAccord, was appointed to replace Frankie Fredericks as chair of the IOC's 2024 Evaluation Commission last week after the Namibian resigned following corruption allegations.

Baumann's appointment coincided with the IOC announcing a change in dates for the visit to Los Angeles following the withdrawal of Budapest, to ensure there is less of a gap before the subsequent inspection of Paris.

The IOC Evaluation Commission will now visit Los Angeles from May 10 to 12 before they travel to the French capital.

The IOC Evaluation Commission had originally been due to visit Los Angeles between April 23 and 25 and then Budapest between May 10 and 12.

Los Angeles and Paris are the only candidates left in what was originally a five-horse race after Hamburg, Rome and Budapest all withdrew.

It has resulted in speculation that the IOC may consider awarding both the 2024 and 2028 Games together.

Paris insisted last month that there is no possibility of them hosting the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games and that they are only interested in the 2024 edition.

Bid officials pointed out how they only have a tender for the proposed Athletes' Village site in the suburb of St Denis until 2024, so would have scrap this entire plan if they were to host the later edition.

The poignancy of the 100 year anniversary of the French capital hosting the 1924 Summer Games is also thought to be key with Estanguet once again reiterating that Paris' bid was designed solely for the 2024 Games today.

"No, I have to be honest with you our position has not changed at all," added the triple Olympic gold medallist in canoe slalom.

"Our mandate was very clear coming from our political leaders and the project has been made for 2024.

"We are only focusing and concentrating solely on 2024."

The IOC is due to elect a host city at its Session in Peru's capital Lima on September 13 this year.
