Wales supporters attending next year's Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast will have their own special location to cheer on their team.

Kurrawa Surf Club will be home to the Welsh Centre during Gold Coast 2018.

This is where Team Wales supporters will be able gather to socialise and watch events.

The Club is located in the heart of Broadbeach, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

It is currently undergoing a redevelopment into a new state-of-the-art facility completed by the end of this year.

It offer Team Wales excellent facilities and a stunning location to relax and host media and social events, it has been claimed.

"We are so excited that Team Wales have chosen our Club as the Welsh Centre for the duration of the Commonwealth Games," said Rob Aldou, manager of Kurrawa Surf Club.

"Multi-sport events bring so much life to the Club, as we saw with the Pan Pacific Masters Games in November when we had over 12,000 athletes and supporters over two weeks.

"We can't wait to see the same buzz here when Team Wales and their supporters arrive.

"We have a lot of Welsh expats and locals with roots in Wales out here on the Gold Coast, and I have no doubt they will be coming out in force next April."

Richard Vaughan Jones, originally from Mold, who runs the Gold Coast Wales Facebook group is already looking forward to the start of the Commonwealth Games on April 4 next year.

"There is already increasing excitement around the Games out here and a lot of support for Team Wales following their visit to the Gold Coast last year," he said.

"Kurrawa Surf Club is an excellent location for the Welsh Centre - I can't wait to see my fellow Welsh people from all over come together to support our team."

Wales won a total of 36 medals at Glasgow 2014, including five gold, their best performance since Manchester 2002.

Cathy Williams, Wales' general team manager, believes Kurrawa Surf Club will be an important hub as they seek to beat their previous best performance at a Commonwealth Games in Australia.

That was at Brisbane 1982 when the won nine medals, including four gold.

"The Welsh Centre will be our main hub outside the Village for athletes, their families and friends, and supporters," Williams said.

"We visited the Club on a visit to the Gold Coast last year and were highly impressed with the brand new facilities that will be on offer.

"We are extremely glad that they have chosen to partner with us to provide the Welsh Centre during the Commonwealth Games and we value their members' participation in supporting Team Wales."
