Germany's Jannis Drewell won the men's title on home soil at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Vaulting Final in Dortmund.

The European champion was in superb form as he wowed the crowd with a "Sherlock Holmes" routine.

He scored 8,720 points with Diabolus 3 to triumph at the Westfalenhallen.

Drewell's mother Simone served as his lunger as he took the coveted title.

Switzerland's Lukas Heppler took silver on Monaco Franze 4, scoring 8,554.

Bronze went to Jannik Heiland of Germany on 8,406.

"It has been a long journey to get here," said Drewell.

"Last year was my first time in the World Cup and I finished second.

"I had a conversation with my mother before the second round where I asked about the ground jump as it is high risk.

"It's always the way, I should have listened to my mother - but I am so happy it was enough to take the title even with that mistake."

Italy won the two remaining titles on offer as Anna Cavallaro took the women's crown with a score of 8,662 on board Monaco Franze 4.

She pipped home rider Kristina Boe and Don de la Mar who scored 8,534.

Italy also bagged bronze as Silvia Stopazzini tallied 8,242.

However, the third place finisher would taste victory in the pas de deux competition, scoring 8,698 alongside Lorenzo Lupacchini.

Torben Jacobs and Theresa Sophie Bresch of Germany were second on 8,439 with their compatriots Jolina Ossenberg-Engels and Timo Gerdes third.
