A partnership agreement entitled "Let's Make it Happen" has been signed by the Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee (COSL) and their country's Government to increase sporting growth.

The deal was penned by COSL President André Hoffmann, general secretary Daniel Dax and Luxembourg's Secretary of State for the Economy Francine Closener at the House of Sport in Strassen.

The Government have agreed the partnership with the COSL as part of their policy to actively support sport in Luxembourg.

"We are pleased to be able to become a partner of choice for this project of national interest by promoting the values of the country and the Signature of Luxembourg," said Hoffmann.

"This support is essential in order to promote the country through Luxembourg sports and sports in Luxembourg, but also across borders, the Greater Region, Europe and worldwide."

Closener also welcomed the agreement between the Government and the COSL.

"I am particularly pleased with this collaborative partnership with the COSL because sport is an important vector of a country's image," she said.

"By wearing the colours of the new Luxembourg Signature during their participation in international competitions, high-level athletes subscribe to the values of the country and contribute as sports ambassadors par excellence to the influence of the Grand Duchy."

Closener went on to praise the COSL for their work so far, particularly on their "sustained" commitment to sport in Luxembourg.

Luxembourg have one Olympic gold medal to their name as Josy Barthel was a surprise winner of the 1,500 metres at the 1952 Summer Games in Helsinki.

They have also won two Winter Olympic silver medals thanks to Alpine skier Marc Girardelli, who finished second in the super-G and giant slalom events at the 1992 Games in Albertville.
