Norway’s Marit Bjørgen produced a dominant performance in the women’s 10 kilometres cross-country classic today to claim her second gold medal of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Ski World Championships in Finnish city Lahti.

The 36-year-old, winner of the women’s 15km skiathlon on Saturday (February 25), clocked a time of 25min 24.9sec to beat nearest challenger Charlotte Kalla of Sweden by a huge margin of 41 seconds.

Victory ensured Bjørgen a 16th World Championship title of her career.

"Today I felt very good and strong," the six-time Olympic champion said.

"The 10 km classic was really something I wanted to win and achieve the gold medal.

"That’s why I was nervous before today."

"I feel like this is the biggest success I have achieved," she said.

Action in Lahti is due to continue tomorrow when the medallists in the men’s 15km cross-country classic and Nordic Combined HS130/10 km will be decided.
